Today, there were lots of knowns & unknowns. We had to return the car at the airport. Easy, google maps is a godsend. I dropped mom off at the airport and got all our luggage out of the car and I found a place not far from the entrance where she could sit while I went to return the car. Unknowns…where were we to return the car? They had lots of signs that said Car Rentals, but nothing about Returns. But I kept following the Car Rental and finally, there it was…a sign that said Car Rental Returns. Simple and easy. Followed the steps and walked back to mom, dropped the key in the after hours box at Alamo and we were off to our train. Again, a wonderful trip down to Naples. And was the train amazing…they even had a portable Cappuccino machine!

We found a taxi to take us to the Ferry – what a wild ride – no different than 50 years ago…they still drive as crazy as it was all those years ago. It took a while to find the ferry terminal & which ferry was ours, but in the process we made several new friends.

Mom met a group of guys from Greece – who called themselves the hooligans. Mom loved their excitement and fun! Waiting helped us to get to know others, we buddied up with a couple Chris & Lisette from Los Angeles. They had been married 10 years and mom found out she had a little 5 year old girl. There was frequent talking along the way.

It turned out they were going to Positrano, another small village about the size of Amalfi.

I didn’t realize we were stopping before we got to Amalfi, but that was ok, turns out we had to switch ferries there. We said goodbye to Chris & Lisette and we were off. Finally, we were amazed. We were told it wasn’t far to our hotel…and they were right…really only 2 minutes from the pier/dock.

Finally, we located our hotel and were amazed at how it was tucked between two souvenir stores. We were thinking… is this really our hotel?

But when we stepped inside and realized how stunning it was and when they showed us to our room…just look at what we saw…

And here’s what the restaurant for breakfast and its outside patio was like. You can see by the last image It sits out over all the shops to provide this spectacular view.

That night we ate at a small restaurant at their outdoor cafe and had two wonderful Italian dishes, wine…and a dessert I heard about on a food show by Stanley Tucci called Lemon Delight. A cream filled pastry covered in lemon cream made from lemons from the Amalfi coast that have a particular flavor only found here in Amalfi.

But before we got back to the hotel, we stopped for some Gelato. The first night was difficult for dad, there was a lot of partying going on in the small square or round about with a fountain in the middle of it…until wee hours of the morning. Eventually, some time after 2:30 it began to be quiet.
