Day 0 – Departure to Buenos Aires (Mar 10)
Day 0 – Departure to Buenos Aires (Mar 10)

The trip back to Nice to take the plane to Venice was nerve wracking as our bus didn’t arrive when it was supposed to, not 10 minutes, not 20 or 30 minutes late, but over an hour late. It arrived when we were supposed to be walking into the airport. However, even after this delay we made our flight…Dad was an emotional wreck but not like during our 10 year anniversary.  He actually was holding it together rather well.

Dad did some research on how to get from the Venice Marco Polo Airport on the mainland of Venice. There were several options, many with multiple transfers of baggage, but one provided us with a single best method with only getting to the docks at the airport…a private taxi!  Well worth the money…and time.  They helped us with our luggage on the boat and I got some great shots of her enjoying the ride!

We were dropped off in Venice, not far from our hotel and saw some of those remarkable sights that Venice is famous for…the Rialto bridge…which is famous as the oldest and most iconic bridge spanning Venice’s Grand Canal, completed in 1591. It is renowned for its unique single-span limestone arch design by Antonio da Ponte, featuring two ramps lined with shops. It symbolizes Venetian resilience, commerce, and Renaissance engineering. We also got to see many of the Gondola’s that are all over the city.

When I started trying to figure out where I was, Google was telling us to go down to what looked like a small alley, I found a sea of people coming out of it and somehow it just didn’t feel right.  So, I turned us around, up and over a set of steps…until I noticed it showed us in the Grand Canal. So, I went back to the alley and asked someone if the alley was where we should go…and yes, that was indeed the “street” we were supposed to take. And yes, it was only a short distance after that to our Hotel Grazia.  That night we had dinner at a restaurant just a few doors down from our hotel, where we met a very nice outgoing host called Davidea.

After dinner we collapsed into bed for a good night’s sleep.

April 4

Today we went exploring to see the sights. First was just a casual walk around our locale and see what we might find…Mom found an amazing church in a nearby square.  As we went inside we were blown away by what we found…

After that we were off to the one place I wanted her to see and that has always been a strong memory in my life, Piazza San Marco…where we found a place to sit down and have a bite to eat and a cappuccino.

After sitting and enjoying the Piazza, we got up and walked around admiring the architecture built so long ago.

We walked to the end of the Piazza and looked out over the lagoon and well, you can tell from the picks we were having a great time.

Tonight our night was not as restful as last night…right outside our window (which we needed to keep open to keep the room cool) was an open air restaurant and there must have been a little girl having a gay time until after 10:30 pm, then the clean up and moving of tables, followed by a group of people laughing and later arguing not but a few rooms down from ours.  Fortunately, mom slept through it all.
