Here we are now on the Cape Verde archipelago. A group of ten volcanic islands that enjoy a year-round warm climate, turquoise seas and beautiful landscapes. The isles were first inhabited after their discovery by Portuguese sailors during the 15th century. Mindelo is the capital of São Vicente and birthplace of Cesaria Evora—a singer who rose from poverty to worldwide fame on the international stage.
Mom was still down for the count, but now we’re in Cape Verde… or the São Vicente Island (Mindelo), on Cape Verde to be more specific.
Our shore excursion was named Panoramic São Vicente and it certainly lived up to that…where I took lots of pictures from the switchbacks on cobblestone…
and the spectacular beaches…
We could even see our Viking Ship, the Jupiter, parked at the docks next to a massive multiple thousand person ship besides ours, dwarfing the Jupiter.

Monte Verde Summit, Baía das Gatas and Taste of Local Liqueur. We got to admire the rugged beauty of São Vicente and at the summit of Monte Verde, which reaches a height of 2.441 feet, we had a taste of the local liqueur and their coffee that they grow on the island. Both to the top of Monte Verde and coming down again we got to see the scenic parts of the interior island landscape. We then visited Baía das Gatas and admired the azure waters of its natural lagoon set against a striking mountain backdrop, then we sampled the national liqueur distilled from sugarcane on the sands of Praia Grande.
Mom finally was feeling better and decided to take a walk around the track on deck 2 where I was able to catch a pic of her looking wonderful.
