Day 0 – Departure to Buenos Aires (Mar 10)
Day 0 – Departure to Buenos Aires (Mar 10)

We left Buenos Aires late last night and headed for Uruguay, only a short distance across what I thought was a bay but is actually the end of a vast river called the Plata, the world’s widest river. Our shore excursion today was a coach ride to admire Montevideo’s landmarks: Independence Square, the parks and gardens.

Mom saw the Monumento a La Carreta in Montevideo which depicts a covered ox-cart, which was a vital mode of transportation in Uruguay’s rural history and celebrates the pioneers and travelers who helped settle the country. The scene captures the immense effort of the oxen pulling the heavy cart across the landscape.

Then we were taken to the Carnival Museum and a Murga performance, which was spectacular! Mom even got involved when one of their songs was about being free to complain.  They came out into the audience and asked people if anyone had something to complain about…after a couple of people spoke, mom got the attention of the leader and she stood and complained about Apple’s iPhone! Everyone cheered!

We returned to the ship and got ready for our departure from Uruguay and on to our two day trip to Rio!
