Mom was still down for the count, but we were now in Cape Verde\u2026 or the S\u00e3o Vicente Island (Mindelo), on Cape Verde to be more specific.\u00a0 Where I took lots of pictures from the switchbacks on cobblestone\u2026to the spectacular beaches. We could even see our Viking Ship, the Jupiter, parked at the docks next to a massive multiple thousand person ship besides ours, dwarfing the Jupiter.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cape Verde archipelago is a group of ten volcanic islands that enjoy a year-round warm climate, turquoise seas and beautiful landscapes. The isles were first inhabited after their discovery by Portuguese sailors during the 15th century. Mindelo is the capital of S\u00e3o Vicente and birthplace of Cesaria Evora\u2014a singer who rose from poverty to worldwide fame on the international stage. She performed her distinctive mornaballads to audiences while barefoot, which soon became her trademark style; her music is widely celebrated and is a part of Cape Verde\u2019s heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Our shore excursion was named Panoramic S\u00e3o Vicente and it certainly lived up to that.<\/span><\/p>\n

Monte Verde Summit, Ba\u00eda das Gatas and Taste of Local Liqueur.\u00a0 We got to admire the rugged beauty of S\u00e3o Vicente and at the summit of Monte Verde, which reaches a height of 2.441 feet, we had a taste of the local liqueur and their coffee that they grow on the island. Both to the top of Monte Verde and coming down again we got to see the scenic parts of the interior island landscape.\u00a0 We then visited Ba\u00eda das Gatas and admired the azure waters of its natural lagoon set against a striking mountain backdrop, then we sampled the national liqueur distilled from sugarcane on the sands of Praia Grande.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
