The local Cariocas call their city Cidade Maravilhosa (\u201cMarvelous City\u201d), and it is easy to understand why: The rhythm of the samba, born in these lively streets, fills the air and the stately colonial architecture rubs shoulders with gleaming skyscrapers. Legendary beaches, Copacabana and Ipanema, stretch for miles along Guanabara Bay, luring sun worshippers, swimmers, joggers and volleyball enthusiasts. The Christ the Redeemer statue seems to offer a gentle embrace to it all from high atop Corcovado mountain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-267 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2-COR-far-and-Near-300x180.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2-COR-far-and-Near-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2-COR-far-and-Near-768x461.png 768w, https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/2-COR-far-and-Near.png 917w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My shore excursion took me to Sugarloaf and the beach of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Copacabana. O<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ur tour guide was funny and informative and I came away with understanding of the people and how resilient they are and how beautiful and green their city was.\u00a0 As you can see below, Sugarloaf was quite spectacular. I had views of all of the great areas of Rio and was able to have one of their favorite drinks\u2026the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caipirinha!\u00a0 As you can see, I went to a bar on the top of Sugarloaf and ordered that specific drink!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-266 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1-Dad-on-Sugarloaf-300x180.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1-Dad-on-Sugarloaf-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1-Dad-on-Sugarloaf-768x461.png 768w, https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1-Dad-on-Sugarloaf.png 917w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the top of Sugarloaf, I was able to see the phenomenal statue that Rio is so famous for\u2026the Christ the Redeemer statue.\u00a0 It is very large, but fairly small from Sugarloaf, but even there we could still see it in the distance standing above Rio as a protector of the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-268 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/3-Sugarloaf-and-COR-300x180.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/3-Sugarloaf-and-COR-300x180.png 300w, https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/3-Sugarloaf-and-COR-768x461.png 768w, https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/3-Sugarloaf-and-COR.png 917w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the 1,200 foot summit of the granite monolith, Sugarloaf, we were able to see Guanabara Bay and the famous beach of\u2026Copacabana, known as the \u201cPrincesinha do Mar\u201d for its famous lively atmosphere and wave-patterned promenade! This was the nexus of Brazilian life\u2026from which many people in the heyday of Copacabana, the 20\u2019s &#8211; 40\u2019s visited and partied a lot. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We saw the historic Copacabana Palace, a luxurious hotel that has hosted celebrities and dignitaries since 1923, symbolizing elegance and timeless charm in the heart of Rio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-270 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/5-Dad-and-Cococabana-300x160.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/5-Dad-and-Cococabana-300x160.png 300w, https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/5-Dad-and-Cococabana-768x409.png 768w, https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/5-Dad-and-Cococabana.png 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She had switched her walking tour to a tour of the city by Coach because she was concerned the walking tour was too difficult.\u00a0 She saw a lot of Rio de Janeiro and while I saw a lot of the same sights while exploring Rio\u2019s panoramic downtown district passing an eclectic mix of towering high-rises and colonial architecture.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-272 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/6-Moms-view-of-Rio-300x215.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/6-Moms-view-of-Rio-300x215.png 300w, https:\/\/fonh.com\/sacruise\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/6-Moms-view-of-Rio.png 745w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then she was taken to see the Metropolitan Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro and view its colorful stained glass windows.
